Things To Do in Ruidoso
Ski Sierra Blanca in winter, spend summer at Grindstone Lake, walk Midtown, or match a race day with one currently open forest outing.
Ski Apache and Sierra Blanca
Winter brings 55 trails across 750 acres when the mountain is fully open. Summer weekends replace skiing with the scenic gondola, zipline, mountain biking, and hiking on the operator's posted schedule. Either version requires the drive up Ski Run Road from lodging in town.
Midtown and Wingfield Park
Sudderth Drive concentrates coffee, shops, galleries, and restaurants in a walkable stretch. Wingfield Park sits just off that corridor with lawns and event space, making the two a compact half-day when a mountain outing is closed or the group wants time out of the car.
Grindstone Lake
South of Midtown, Grindstone Lake supports boating, fishing, disc golf, picnics, and a summer inflatable water park. Its 18-mile trail system gives hikers and mountain bikers a named in-town network of shoreline and forest routes.
Ruidoso Downs
The race track east of town is a date-specific choice, not a daily attraction. Use its official calendar for live racing and special events, then pair the visit with the US 70 corridor rather than driving back and forth through Midtown.
Mescalero and Lake Mescalero
Inn of the Mountain Gods is a separate Mescalero resort south of Ruidoso, with Lake Mescalero, golf, dining, a casino, and scheduled entertainment. It works as a resort day or evening; it is not part of the Midtown walking district.
Midtown, Wingfield Park, and a scheduled afternoon
Begin with breakfast, walk Sudderth Drive, stop at Wingfield Park, and use the current Ruidoso Downs or Mescalero calendar for the afternoon. The circuit stays in town and can be paired with a scheduled race, performance, or resort event.

Use Grindstone Lake for a full warm-weather block
Boating, fishing, disc golf, the summer water park, and 18 miles of trails can fill several hours without leaving the village. Check lake notices for water access, fees, and seasonal services; do not treat a Forest Service closure as the lake's status.

Walk Sudderth Drive and Wingfield Park
Midtown works on foot: coffee and shops along Sudderth Drive, Wingfield Park nearby, and a restaurant before returning to the cabin. Add Ruidoso Downs or Mescalero only when its calendar or amenities justify the separate drive.
From Sierra Blanca snow to Grindstone Lake water
Ski Apache in winter; lake trails and race dates after the thaw
In winter, a fully operating Ski Apache is the daylight event. During warm weather, Grindstone Lake is the clearest all-day alternative, while Ski Apache's summer program is limited to its posted operating days and weather conditions.
Ruidoso Downs belongs to the dates on its racing and events calendar. Midtown and Wingfield Park need no event ticket and fit the arrival afternoon, a mixed-interest group, or a day when fire, flood, wind, or snow changes the outdoor plan.
